SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible to perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation, aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies. The results of these tests are used in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science required.
MLS (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society (ASCP), CLT (HHS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Health and Human Services Certification, and/or category specific technologist certifications offered by American Society of Pathology such as BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), H(ASCP), M(ASCP), and MB(ASCP) required.
Must be ASCP Certified within one year of employment at the Penn State Hershey Department of Pathology.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements.
The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Example: National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.

Able to stand frequently, walk frequently, sit constantly.
Able to lift/carry 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to push 0-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to climb occasionally, reach constantly.
Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
