Hours: Office is open Monday - Saturday from 7:00a - 7:00p, will be required to work days/evenings to cover hours
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for collecting blood specimens (phlebotomy) from inpatients and outpatients and receiving other laboratory specimens, i.e., 24 hour urine containers, sputum, stool specimens and splitting of random urine specimens. Enters, verifies, and updates patient demographic and insurance information into various information systems. Responsible for performing and reporting bedside glucose testing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 6 months phlebotomy experience required OR completion of an internship through a certified training program required.
- Pass a written test with at least 80%.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Simple use of formulas, charts, tables, specification and schedules.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to interact with patients.
- Hands on phlebotomy skills must be demonstrated on volunteer.
- Must have performed a minimum number of successful patient blood draws.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bedside glucose and pediatric collection experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy Certification, general computer skills, CPR and additional language skills (i.e. Spanish) preferred.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Able to stand and walk frequently; sit occasionally.
- Able to lift/carry 0-20 constantly; 21-50 lbs occasionally.
- Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently.
- Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly. Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
