Elizabeth A. Harkins

About Me

Elizabeth "Beth" Harkins, MSN, NNP-BC, joined the Penn State Health Children's Hospital NICU after graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. She is a member of the Outreach Team, which teaches lay midwives in the surrounding Amish/Mennonite communities how to use the Helping Babies Breath program, a program that reduces neonatal mortality and delivery outcomes in more rural populations locally and globally. In 2020, Beth obtained her national certification for the care of extremely low birth weight newborns (ELBW-C) and is interested in improving quality care of extremely preterm and low birth weight infants, as well as family preparedness for home. Beth also serves on the NICU's Small Baby Unit committee with a special emphasis on thermoregulation.
